Is it safe to give power of attorney to HR Block people? Desperate. Plz help?

ronney asked:

Hi ,HR Block did my tax returns for 2007 and I haven’t received my refund yet. When I called them today, the agent told me to give power of attorney to him in order to call the IRS and see what is going on. I have never met this agent. Please help. What are the pro’s and con’s of doing so…
I would have called the IRS and the HR block for a 1000 times. But all the IRS says is that they have sent me a letter. But I have never received it till date. I asked them to resend it and it’s been monts and all they say is wait.

    Tax Attorney

It should be a limited power of attorney for completing your taxes, if anything. The problem is that you didn’t file them, HR Block did. I am shocked it has taken you this long to realizxe you didn’t get your return. It’s been almost a year! You can probably call the local IRS office and tell them you didn’t get the refund. It will be legwork, but it’s better than handing over a power of attorney.
